| We
want to influence change for the better and believe that the
industry should have full management of its affairs, specifically
on a regional basis.
Conservation is top of our tree as far as
inshore fisheries and exploitation fisheries go. There is
absolutely no way that we can exploit these fisheries in the
future unless we have conservation at the top of the agenda.
Conservation has not been helped at all by
the present paper legislation; what this is achieving is a
slash in fishing efforts (which could be deemed as conservation
but this is not the whole story) and wrecking the community
aspect of the village. Centralisation of the industry is of
no use to us as every part of our coast is different.
The western approaches, the Cornish regions
of sea, are unique and need their own regional management.
This should eventually extend out to two hundred miles and
should be done sensibly in consultation with the local industry
and other exploiting fishing nations.
The sea is our livelihood and it should
be up to us to partecipate in its policing and determine how
much fishing goes on in which particular areas at different
times of the year, and how we should exploit what is our only
natural, wild, sustainable food resource left on this planet.
